Learn more about Vision Aids

LOW VISION AIDS – There is new low vision technology in the market place that allows low vision patients a more independent lifestyle. We fit telescopic lenses for eyeglasses and carry a wide variety of hand and stand magnifiers in our office. These devices can be used for hobbies such as jewelry making, fly tying, electronics, computer use and needle work. Dr. Craig is highly skilled at working with our low vision and special needs patients. Also see www.athomehealth.org

MAGNIFIERS – We carry 1X adn12X magnification in different sizes and for specialized tasks.

MONOVISION CONTACT LENS – This special type of fitting allows patients who would normally need reading glasses over their contacts, to wear one contact lens for distance and one for near vision. We have successfully fit hundreds of clients through the years with this popular option. Dr. Craig fits contact lenses.

POLYCARBONATE LENSES - the best choice for children’s and sports glasses because of their impact resistance. Polycarb lenses are 30% lighter and thinner than regular CR-39 plastic lenses and an excellent lens choice for people with strong prescriptions.

TRANSITION LENSES – These plastic lenses are the ones you’ll enjoy under all levels of brightness. They are clear indoors and darken when outdoors. They have built-in scratch resistance and ultra-violet light protection. Tints available are gray or brown. Transitions “Xtra Active” lenses are sunshade use only, with ranges from lighter gray to deep gray. Available in our optical department.

ULTRAVIOLET FILTER (U.V.) – This filter works like a sun block for your eye. It is absorbed into the lens, and is colorless. Medical research indicates that using a U.V. filter can slow down the progression of cataracts. Our optical department can discuss this feature with you when you choose your eyeglasses or sunshades. There is no down-side to having U.V. coating on your eye glass lenses, and it is inexpensive protection against the sun’s ravages.
